Entry and Customs in Portugal

Residents from a number of countries including US, Canada and UK do not require a visa for stay at Portugal up to 90 days. A temporary Schengen visa allows free travel across borders of most European states. All tourists visiting Portugal, except those from EEA member states, should hold documents and tickets for their onward or return journey.
Tourists leaving Portugal are allowed to carry national and foreign currencies. They only have to inform Portugal authorities if the value exceeds Euro 12,000. Travelers are also allowed to bring in wine, liquor and cigarettes in limited quantities, though bringing in fresh meat is forbidden in Portugal.
